I don't really have any other revenue making ideas, but I feel like newsletter advertising cannot be nearly as profitable as site advertising. Newsletter advertising takes time and people are impatient. I personally dislike Web sites that feature pop-up ads or those annoying "click here to win a free iPod" ads. Sites like facebook use more of the banner and tower ads, which are much easier to avoid. Yes, I believe the lack of distinction between editorials and advertising carries over to the Web as well, since everything is being converged there anyway.
Well one revenue idea that many newspaper websites use is making you pay/subscribe to view the whole article you want or to view certain topics. The way ads are placed says a lot about how much they care about their content and audience - annoying advertising will push people away, but if it's more subtle and tailored to the audience they're more likely to be responsive in a positive way.
I think it would be interesting to try out. My only concern would be what type of ads they would place on your site. For instance, if the Circut were to use Google would the risk having a Viagra ad on the site? On the other hand if its free and has the ability to make some money I think it would be worth a try.
